In December, I got to meet up with local girls Maya Amoah and Ava Campbell of iila magazine. The best friends created an online magazine to showcase fashion, music, and art, both locally and beyond. Being so young themselves (I was surprised to learn they are still in high school!) the magazine is geared towards and features youth.
Now in its second issue, the magazine is incredibly polished, colourful, and a great read. I was thrilled to be featured in their “Blogger Spotlight” in the Fall/Winter issue. My friend Luke of Extreme Nonchalance also contributed to this issue, with his interview with Dan Mangan.
We met up at Mulberry on a chilly evening and had a fun chat about the city – from outside perceptions of Hamilton, local music and art, and of course fashion, which is a big focus for Maya and Ava. (Maya even has her own clothing line, Nebula Artwear.) I can’t say I was as stylish as these two when I was their age, but delving into Hamilton’s fashion and style scene is something I plan on exploring more now.
It was inspiring to meet this talented, creative duo who, like me, set out to pursue something they love and are just going for it! I was really impressed by Maya and Ava and will definitely be on the lookout for them and hope to collaborate again.
