Ancaster Farmers’ Market 223 Wilson St. East
After my delicious Purple Pony ice cream, it worked out perfectly that it was a Wednesday, so I could mosey on over to Ancaster Farmers’ Market. I hadn’t been before and it’s still my quest to hit all of the farmers’ markets in the city. The Market is in a grass area surrounded by trees, right by a church, and the space is just lovely. With colourful tents and banners, and a beautiful flowered hedge lining one side of the Market, it’s the nicest setting for an outdoor market that I’ve seen yet.
There were some specific summer produce items I had in mind to pick up (it was sangria-making time!) so I made the rounds to track down berries and peaches. There was a delicious-looking array of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and wild blueberries at the one stand I hit, and I opted for the first two, but not before sampling a wild blueberry to taste one. There was a huge variety of vendors and it was definitely tempting to pick up a little more than you needed.
I made sure to stop by Cake & Loaf’s stall to say hi to co-owner Nickey and check out their goodies. The local bakery just celebrated their one year anniversary – it has been an eventful year since I visited them for a feature on the blog. I picked up a box of their scrumptious cinnamon buns, one of my very favourites of theirs. So good! But you can’t go wrong with anything from them.
It was nice and relaxing to stroll around the Market in the sun. In the middle, there was some live music by Mike McCurlie, who I’ve met before at Judy Marsales’ karaoke nights. It was a real community effort and was great to see the locals out and about. Even though I’m not local to the area, I would definitely pop by this Market again.
