Hi Friends!

It’s been forever and ever. Read anything good, lately?! I am stuck in a rut and can’t seem to finish anything I’ve started so pleeeeease send me your recommendations!

Kristin and I finally got together to go check out The River Trading Company and boy were we not disappointed. (But first – posing with that stunning mural on Barton St.!)

A valiant knight stood outside waiting to greet us and the most magical tile led the way through the store. The light in this place was also a dream.

Within minutes of entering the store we had found The Holy Grail and we knew that we were in a good place.

The River Trading CompanyThis is another great stop for those of you who enjoy a well organized bookshop. I think it has the most categories of any shop so far with a lot of smaller non-fiction categories and even a section for books in French. My favourite might be the ‘Speculative Fiction’ category!

We were quite amused at the Mystery Room in the back of the store. Though, come to think of it, where else would you keep your mystery room?! You guys, a whole room full of mystery and intrigue!!

Mary McGowan (co-owner with her brother David) was such a doll and walked us through some of her most recent acquisitions. Not only do they sell books but they take toys, music, games, illustrations, and other lost treasures. It really is such a treat to walk through.

The River Trading Company originally hails from Toronto but they’ve been here on Barton Street since June of 2015. They’ve found a quiet home in an old cafe and have transformed the space into a super welcoming hub for book lovers. They often have different events popping up from time to time so y’all should take a little peek at their website.

As always, I had to ask Mary for her 3 favourite books and she answered rather quickly:

Fateful Choices – Ian Kershaw
Lady Chatterley’s Lover – D.H Lawrence
Jar City – Arnaldur Indrisason

I left with another copy of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing and a Lord John Grey novel by Diana Gabaldon.

All in all a great day!

Until next time, Happy Reading!
