Maria’s Fifty’s Diner 931 Queenston Road, Stoney Creek

It was due time for another Stoney Creek venture. Maria’s Fifty’s Diner has been open just a few months and it sounded like a cute spot to check out. They’ve got you covered with full breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus, but I was awake bright and early and had to take advantage of my timing and go for breakfast.

From the outside, I didn’t expect it to be so big and bright inside. It’s very spacious and a great set up with 50’s paraphernalia lining the walls. There are framed posters of various icons of the decade – The Rat Pack, James Dean, Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, and more. Keeping with the 50’s theme, I enjoyed the soundtrack. Throughout my meal I heard songs like “All Shook Up,” “It’s Still Rock And Roll To Me,” and “Good Vibrations.”

As I walked around snapping photos, my server Sandy didn’t hesitate to introduce me to owners Maria and George, and pose for a picture before I could even get a word in to introduce myself! The staff were all very nice and that added to the experience of being at a friendly neighbourhood diner.

I chose a combo under the “Eggers” called “Temptation” which consists of two eggs, French toast, bacon and sausage. Each combo in that group also comes with coffee or tea, homefries, and toast and jam. Needless to say, I was stuffed! There was one called “The Traveler” that I wanted to order for the sake of the name alone. Had it not been so meat-heavy, I would have, being the faithful tourist I am.

Despite being full, of course the conversation after breakfast went something like this:

Me: I’m so full!
Dad: Oh, they have a dessert menu.
Me: Where?!

Options include cheesecake, apple cobbler, banana split, and homemade rice pudding. Dessert and breakfast, my two favourites, but I think I had enough food for one morning.

We also perused the bar menu that boasts a great selection of cocktails, wine, and beer. As my dad joked, “Not before 11.” So that will have to wait for another time.

Breakfast has quickly become a category in itself on the blog – if you have any recommendations, let me know!

  1. Went there with my wife Valentines Day . She really wanted to try it having heard rave reviews from friends . Staff was friendly , courteous and fast. She had the hot turkey sandwich and I had the 50’s burger ( i believe it was called. ) Fresh bun , juicy burger topped with Montreal smoked meat , cheese and onion rings.. One of the very best burgers I have had in my life.. Will be going back and recommending it to everyone i know… The Caesar salad was done just right .. not too dressing heavy like some places
